I have read several articles on James Doohan past two days. All agree that was a good man, an impression that did not cost pass through the screen. To quote a friend (Adri, do not take it personally) "Alzheimer's has done what six bullets could not." Six German bullets, I might add, on D-Day at Juno Beach. The Yankees can tell a lot about Omaha, but it was the Canadians, Australians and British who ate the worst of the German defense. James Doohan was not only there, but while recovering from the wounds had time to pass the exams for pilot of the Royal Canadian Air Force, and get one of the best records of RCAF fighter in the war.
